Today's Real Wedding post features an epic and historical one as this super fun couple planned and executed what would become the first large wedding held at the Venice Beach Fishing Pier! Ashleigh and Matt, both residents of Venice, love their neighborhood and wanted their wedding to represent the laid-back Venice vibe. Though a large event like this has never happened at the Venice pier before, Matt and Ashleigh, sought out professional help from Bright Blue Events to help execute the first large event and look good doing it!

Local Venice vendors were used throughout the event including Baby Blue BBQ and ourselves (back when we were on Lincoln Boulevard in Venice), to help keep the Venice neighborhood spirit incorporated throughout their wedding.

The ceremony and reception area was planned to be held on the 120-foot diameter circular end which provides lots of angler space and the total length of 1,310 feet! Space that would be adorne with lanters as guest walked down the pier on their way to their seat, but not before first being greeted by a super fun tattoo station. For our eight brave crew members, this meant hauling heavy equipment down the 1,310 foot pier. Additionally, due to the piers weight limit and half of the pier remaining open to the public, only smaller City utility-like vehicles were allowed to drive onto the pier. Four two-man teams would haul multiple pallets filled with gorgeous goods from the adjacent parking lot and down the pier and would alternate with one another pulling each pallet until they reached the circular end for installation. Fortunate for our team, two City approved golf carts were funded by the planning committee to assit all vendors during the load-in and loud-out process. A tool that was greatly appreciated by our team and would expedite the installation time process. When we asked our Crew Chief about the labor intensive installation and teardown experience, ALL crew members involved said they would gladly do it again as it provided them the necessary experience to find solutions and alternative for future event involving long-distance carries, including the prototype of one of our newest dollies that is able to drive through any terrain.

This was a unique, historic and one-of-a-kind wedding we were honored to be a part of. We are incredibly happy for the opportunity and thank the couple for trusting us in playing such an important part of their day. Congratulations Ashleigh and Matt!

Tips & Advice

Dream of hosting your event in your own backyard, historic or iconic building, State park, or large open floor ballroom? They're fantastic spaces and serves as a great blank canvas for which you can hired an event professional to help you with decor or, gives you the option and flexibility of DIY-ing the event of your dreams and often times the venue rates are much more favorable when compared to a full-service venue. However, before you sign your venue rental contract consider the overall cost of your event and the rental items that you will need to execute your event design. Do you need to build out a kitchen for your caterer? Where will your guest dine and park? What will the be eating out of? Is there sufficient indoor/outdoor lighting? Are there bathrooms, sinks and other necessary fixtures? You will quickly realize that the cost of a blank canvas isn't always the "cheapest" option especially if there is a strict budget to keep in mind. On the other hand, a full-service venue comes with additional fees or rules that do not allow you to bring in an outside caterer, rental service center, bartender, service staff, etc. In a nut shell, read the contract over and ask questions to make a better educated decision.
